Freshmen Opportunity Outdoor Trip.
Freshmen, STEP up and meet each other in a group adventure. Enrich your U-Engage class with an outdoor experience of your choice.
U-Engage is a new-student orientation class (2 credit) offered through Academic Learning Services. It is designed to assist new students in their transition to university life.
Through this course, students gain understanding of higher education, learn to navigate the academic world, and meet other new students. Students may take the course by itself (ALS 199) or with an outing (ALS 199 and make sure to choose lectures 040 or 060). Footsteps is the outing portion of the U-Engage class.
Students register for a trip with Fall term classes, move on to campus early, and go on the Footsteps outing with classmates before Fall term classes begin.
Transportation, meals, instruction and most camping equipment are provided. No prior experience is necessary. The Outdoor Recreation Center provides instructors/guides who teach a basic, introductory curriculum for these activities.
Safety equipment is provided. We encourage all new students to participate.
Outings include: Rock Climbing, Day Hike and Whitewater Rafting, Whale Watching/ Surfing, Whale Watching/Marine Hatfield Center and Challenge Course/Local Day Hike. Costs range from $100 to $200 (determined by the length of the trip). Fees are assessed to your OSU account, along with your tuition and student fees.
