PROMISE Sponsorship

Purpose: To promote a diverse, qualified applicant pool from Oregon's own student population for future professional, managerial, and technical positions with OSU and state agencies.

Method: Provide qualified OSU students the opportunity to gain compensated, mentored work experience in a 10-week summer professional, managerial, and technical internship.

Program Components:

Intern:

  • Performs a special project requiring full-time (40 hours per week) work for the full 10-week internship period.
  • Participates in scheduled weekly luncheon forums and network groups, various workshops and a one-day field trip experience with major agency heads in Salem.
  • Participates in the poster galleria, sharing project content/experiences.

Sponsor:

  • Defines and provides a professional, managerial, or technical project.
  • Provides a supervisor who gives appropriate, structured professional supervision, guidance, and training to the intern.
  • Participates in all of the activities with their intern.

Benefits:

  • Ability to gain professional work experience.
  • Experience diversity in the workplace.

10-Week Program Costs:

Internship salary of $4,000 plus related costs, i.e., transportation, supplies for poster galleria presentation, other personnel expenses, other expenses as identified by the sponsor for completion of the project. All 10-week summer internship costs are the responsibility of the sponsor. Interns are paid by Oregon State University, with funding provided by the sponsor through interagency funds transfer. Sponsoring departments within OSU may request to be considered for funds (not to exceed $2,000) to subsidize the costs of the internship. Interns are not eligible to receive health benefits. See the sponsorship application form for additional details.

Selection Process:

Internship project proposals are received from sponsoring OSU departments and reviewed by the PROMISE Task Force. Proposals are accepted based on the strengths of the experience and training the project will provide for the intern. PROMISE intern applicants are then referred to sponsors for interviewing and selection based on qualifications and interest.
