Eligibility Criteria

AIL is designed for students who have completed what traditionally are grades 5 or 6 during the 2005-2006 school year and who are mature enough to monitor their own behavior in an adult academic environment, i.e., a university campus. AIL is not suitable for students who have exhibited behavior problems.

New applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be identified as intellectually/academically talented and gifted according to State of Oregon identification criteria.

OR

b. Have mental ability total battery test score at or above the 90th percentile.

OR

c. Have total Reading or total Math achievement test score at or above the 90th percentile.

OR

d. Have demonstrated extraordinary ability, interest, and/or effort in a valued area of human endeavor.

Criterion d requires:

    1) submission of two AIL reference forms which request information about applicant's special abilities/skills, behavior, intense interest in an area, conversations on adult topics, unusual curiosity, imaginative behavior, and awareness of humor.

    a)one form to be completed by a school administrator, TAG coordinator, teacher, or counselor;

    b) a second form to be completed by parent or out-of-school adult who has worked with the applicant, such as an instructor, club leader, or coach.

    2) sharing and describing a work sample/portfolio of items made, produced, written, or invented by the applicant which demonstrates work performed at least two grade levels above age peers.
