Outside the Box is designed for students who have completed what traditionally are grades 7 or 8 during the 2007-2008 school year and who are mature enough to monitor their own behavior in an adult academic environment, i.e., a university campus. Outside the Box is not suitable for students who have exhibited behavior problems.

New applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements:
a. Be identified as intellectually/academically talented and gifted according to State of Oregon identification criteria.
OR
b. Have mental ability total battery test score at or above the 90th percentile.
OR
c. Have total Reading or total Math achievement test score at or above the 90th percentile.
OR
d. Previously attended an OSU Precollege TAG Program (Winter Wonderings, Expeditions, or Adventures in Learning).
