Come one, come all! Learn more about the art of design and acting for the stage and theatre. Design, rehearse, and perform a short play. The production will be complete with costumes and properties.
- Build Your Own Electronic Pet
- Instructor: Ellen Porter
Using the facilities in an OSU Electrical Engineering lab, build an electronic pet of your very own. Working in groups, each girl and boy will create their own pet that will move and interact with them and even your new friends’ pets! With your instructor’s guidance your pet, which you take home on the last day of the program, might be taught to make noises, dance, change color, and even chase another pet! Different sections offered for beginners and for those who took this course last year.
- Claybonga – Clay Art That Rocks
- Instructor: Kathy Jederlinich
This will be the first class to use a new and exciting self-hardening, non-toxic modeling clay that is not yet on the market! You can paint it when it is dry, or add color with powdered tempera before you mold it. There are many ways to use this clay. Learn relief sculpture, hand sculpture, carving. Make animal or human or mythological forms. You be the creator!
- Contemporary Issues in Law
- Instructor: E. Jeff Jeffery
Be prepared to discuss and question current issues in the news from a legal point of view. Possible topics could include copyright issues of downloading movies/songs, government wiretapping, elections, the President’s veto rights, and the Supreme Court selection. You will be invited to suggest possible topics to be included in class discussions. A visit with a judge at the Benton County Courthouse is planned.
- Creative Writing

Explore your creative side through poetry and short fiction. Learn how to write a variety of poetic forms, tell an exciting story, and explore your personal writing style. Create a portfolio of original poems and short stories inspired by experiences, sounds and art work. Each student will publish his or her own original collection of writing in a bound souvenir book.

How many times a day do you argue? Who do you argue with - teachers, parents, friends? Argument and debate makes our government work; our opinions shape the way the U.S. is run. Learn what it takes to really argue. Listen to, speak in front of, and cooperate with peers to create opinions and express them. Our subjects will be current events in our own community, state, nation, and world. Bring your opinions and ideas about the world, and learn to build solid arguments and deliver them effectively!
- Director's Cut: Video Editing
- Instructor: Michael Todd Backus
Edit digital video on Final Cut Pro. For inspiration review examples from famous movies that show a variety of editing styles and techniques. Produce short editing exercises with pre-shot footage. Create a music video using footage shot as a group and edited individually. Music to be used will be selected from a list provided by the instructor, or personal selections may be used if provided to the instructor the first two days of class for approval.

Explore the physics behind electricity and magnetism using OSU Physics labs and equipment. Find out what happens to a regular magnet when it is frozen to -321 degrees Fahrenheit. Discover how a minuscule particle like an electron can make its mark on the world at the grandest of levels. Explore the origins of magnetism and its ability to act on objects from a distance. Explore and explain these phenomena and more!
- Exploring Astronomy

- Instructor: Morgan Emerson
This hands-on course provides opportunities to discover, understand and explore modern astronomy and cosmology. Learn about methods and basic physical principles astronomers use to understand and observe the universe. Use telescopes and “ancient” navigation tools. Work with digital cameras to learn how astronomers take pictures of objects in space. Use the computer program “Starry Night” to look at the solar system and galaxy from different views. Interesting and fun for all levels. Come explore the universe with us!
- Funky Art for Outdoors
- Instructor: Kathy Jederlinich
Do you like to drill, sand, and hammer? Make outdoor sculptures with recycled parts. Explore the possibilities of using scrap wood, metal, plastic, and even moving parts to make weather resistant art for your yard, and maybe a relief sculpture as well to hang on a wall. You get to hammer, drill, sand, and paint. Make it fun, funky, and bright using recycled latex house paint!

If you like chess, you will love Go. Played by warriors and priests, by Samurai and monks, this is the oldest and most popular game in the world. Even if you do not know how to play when you sign up, you will be playing within 15 minutes on the first day. During the next two weeks learn about the opening game, the middle game, and the end game. By the end of the two weeks, you will be able to play full board game, and be on your way to becoming a master level player. Discover what resources are available on the internet and where to meet players locally. Find out how much fun this game is. The rules are simple, but the game is rich in complexity.

What do the following have in common: the space shuttle and space station; kidney dialysis; computers; targeted drug delivery for the treatment of cancer; inkjet printers; biodiesel fuel; artificial skin and muscle; clean drinking water; a Burger King shake and Jell-O pudding; aspirin? The answer is that ENGINEERS were involved in the development and delivery of all these products and processes! Look at the wonderful world of ENGINEERING using chemistry and biology in hands-on activities (engineers call that "problem solving") to explore and discover the wide variety of applications of ENGINEERING in our daily lives.

Whether you have played with LEGO® kits all your life, or never built a thing, you will love LEGO® Robotics. Combine and improve your skills of building, creative problem solving, and engineering while programming your LEGO® robot to do just about anything. Build a Bumper-Bot and be amazed the first time you watch your programming spring to life as your robot turns in a circle, solves a maze, or uses a light sensor to follow a colored path. No previous experience required -- only an enthusiasm for learning and enjoyment of hands-on experiences.

Contemplate all of these contemporary ethical dilemmas and more. Review ancient ethical theories, discuss modern moral dilemmas and watch the Academy Award winning film series The Lord of the Rings. Develop critical thinking skills, awareness of moral messages in media, and practice synthesizing information with multiple moral frameworks to apply them to modern issues that affect your life.

Produce your own live on-air radio show at OSU's radio station, KBVR-FM 88.7. Be trained in the art of radio broadcasting. Learn all aspects of live broadcasting as well as pre-recorded production. Announce the news, PSA's and play music on the air. Take home pieces of your own shows on CD.
