About OSU in Portland

Oregon State University, as the state's land-grant university, has a presence in all of Oregon's 36 counties. In Portland, the state's largest populated area, OSU offers courses, provides services, houses administrative offices and hosts a Beaver Fan Shop.

  • Beaver Believers and OSU alumni take advantage of programming ranging from social events to game day celebrations through the OSU Alumni Association. Approximately 40,000 OSU alumni live in the region.
  • The OSU Foundation is housed in the Bank of California Building in the heart of the city and offers services to donors and friends in the region.
  • OSU Extension provides programs, and partners with others to address major issues of importance to urban and suburban populations with faculty located in multiple sites throughout Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, and Washington counties.
  • OSU, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Agriculture, has the only urban Agricultural Experiment Station in the nation-the Food Innovation Center-located in downtown Portland, which focuses on creating food based businesses utilizing Oregon products. In addition the North Willamette Research and Extension Center works to improve the quality and economic viability of agriculture in the metro region including nursery crops, berries and grapes, fruit and nut trees, vegetables, and small farms.
  • The Oregon Humane Society receives veterinary care from OSU veterinary medicine students who serve clinical rotations at this amazing organization.
  • The administrative office for the Oregon University System's Institute for Natural Resources, operated through OSU, is in downtown Portland.
  • Courses and degree programs are offered through OSU's Extended Campus ("Ecampus"). In addition to the Oregon Executive MBA, OSU also offers courses and research initiatives through the Colleges of Education and Engineering.

Nearly 100 faculty and staff call the Portland area home and extend OSU's presence to this key area. Students from the Portland area comprise approximately 35 percent of OSU's enrollment, and nearly 30 percent of OSU transfer students come from Portland-area community colleges (Portland, Clackamas and Mt. Hood).
