Students and parents learn more about a college while visiting and talking with the faculty, staff, and current students than just reading about it (although that is always good, too).
There are a variety of regularly scheduled open houses and visit days to take advantage of. You also can choose to schedule an individual meeting and take a tour of campus on a different day. Exploring campus helps parents and students decide if OSU will be a good fit.
The OSU main campus is 400 acres of elegant buildings, stately trees, colorful flowers, and wide expanses of lawn. There is a lot to explore any time of the year. Some highlights:
Visiting Corvallis will give you and your student a chance to experience all the city has to offer. Students often feel most comfortable moving to a new city when they have had the opportunity to visit and spend time becoming familiar with the new location.
Corvallis is a comfortable and safe community of 50,000 people, located in the beautiful, green Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, high desert, the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges, and the urban amenities of the Portland metropolitan area are all within a 100-mile drive.
Downtown Corvallis, a few blocks from campus, offers restaurants, shopping theatre, and parks. You'll find ethnic restaurants (Thai, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and Hawaiian), Asian markets, a wide variety of coffee and tea houses, and locally-owned bookstores and boutique shops.
