Independent candidate John Frohnmayer dropped out of Oregon’s U.S. Senate race Tuesday. …Frohnmayer, an Oregon State University instructor and budding playwright, remained committed to his original goals - promoting universal health care, limiting private money in campaigns for public office, and putting more tax dollars into education instead of the military.
Recent headlines from an Oregon State University study asserted "Vitamin E trials fatally flawed" and the following story detailed how most studies on Vitamin E have been flawed to the point of being essentially worthless. …Such news comes as no surprise to natural health advocates, but the public announcement of the results is surprising because it spotlights a common failure of testing natural alternatives that has gone on for decades: namely, testing dosage amounts well below the therapeutic level.
Don't be fooled by the clouds and cold. Summer is almost here. It's time to worry about the sun. And these days, there's twice as much to worry about. …The tanning industry, whose fierce interest in funding and publicizing research on vitamin D, might be clouding the issues. … Most experts think the government recommendations are "woefully inadequate," said Victoria Drake, a research associate with Oregon State University's Linus Pauling Institute. Many people urge 800 to 2,000 units a day. That means taking two to five usual supplements, because few foods contain vitamin D besides fatty fish and fortified milks, juices and cereals, or getting some sun the most efficient way to make that hormone.
