Richard "Rico" Krohn, an 18-year-old Oregon State University freshman with a loud voice and a greased pompadour, figures he's the perfect entrepreneur: gregarious, creative and quick to question authority. As a high school student in Wimer, near Grants Pass, he earned $4,000 total breeding sows and selling piglets. "My outgoing personality helps with networking," he said. "I've pretty much been an entrepreneur my entire life." Krohn is enrolled in OSU's Austin Entrepreneurship Program, which offered its first for-credit courses this year. With 268 students living in Weatherford Hall, it's the nation's largest residential entrepreneurship program.
A project to refurbish an obsolete playground at the Old Mill Center for Children and Families has earned Oregon State University instructor Sandy Neubaum this year’s Corvallis Gazette-Times Faculty Leadership Award. Neubaum was one of 12 faculty and staff members honored by the OSU College of Business at the school’s annual awards dinner Friday night, held in the Valley End Zone at Reser Stadium.
Oregon State’s baseball teams have established a reputation of battling until the final strike throughout the 13-year Pat Casey coaching era. On Sunday, the Beavers displayed that characteristic - literally - in a tense 1-0 victory over Michigan in the opening game of the best-of-3 Corvallis Super Regional at Goss Stadium.
The OSU baseball team hosts Michigan in an NCAA Super Regional starting at 4 p.m. at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. If the Beavers win today, they will qualify for the College World Series.
