The staging of student-directed plays is a springtime tradition in Oregon State University Theatre Arts, but this year instructors George Caldwell and Charlotte Headrick introduced a new wrinkle: During a three-quarter sequence, students would spend two quarters writing scripts and one quarter directing them.
Oregon State University’s wrestling and gymnastics teams took the top honors at the Ninth Annual Bennys Awards ceremony Tuesday at the LaSells Stewart Center. The Bennys is an end-of-the-year celebration commemorating the achievements of student-athletes at Oregon State University.
Player development has reached a new level for the Oregon State baseball team, as seen during the first day of the Major League Baseball amateur draft Thursday. Two Beavers were selected in the first round for the first time in program history.
Jane Lubchenco, Wayne and Gladys Valley Professor of Marine Biology and Distinguished Professor of Zoology at OSU, will deliver the Gilfillan Memorial Award Lecture starting at 1 p.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center.
A retirement reception for Mary Burke will start at 4 p.m. in the MU Learning Lounge. Burke, a senior instructor in the Department of Microbiology, has been at OSU for 22 years.
The Oregon State University Theatre will present a series of student-written, original one-act plays through Sunday. Performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Withycombe Hall.
The OSU baseball team will host Michigan in a Super Regional this weekend at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The games start at noon on Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday and, if needed, 4 p.m. Monday.
The OSU Chamber Choir will present the annual President’s Concert on Saturday, June 9, starting at 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ. It is located at 4515 S.W. West Hills Road.
The College of Veterinary Medicine will hold its commencement on Sunday, June 10, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center. It is free and open to the public.
Forums will be held next week for the three finalists for the associate dean of the Graduate School. They are as follows: Monday, June 11, Adam Schultz, professor in COAS, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., MU 206; Tuesday, June 12, Martin Fisk, professor in COAS, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Kidder 278; and Tuesday, June 12, William Warnes, associate professor in Mechanical Engineering, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., MU 206.
Reservations are being taken for the 2007 Beaver Community Fair, which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28, in the MU Quad.

Due to the repairs circulation pumps tied to the chilled water line, all chilled water services to Gilbert Addition will be shut down from 7 a.m. to noon on June 12.
