Campus smoking ban gathers steam

Student health advocates who want to ban smoking at Oregon State University plan to begin talks with classmates and administrators during winter term. University administrators will have the final say on such a ban, although students could weigh in with their vote on the proposed ban next year, said Sarah Ballini, chairwoman of the Student Health Advisory Board.

MyStrands raises $24 million
(Portland Business Journal)

Software company MyStrands Inc. has raised $24 million, mostly from Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A., bringing total investment to $55 million. MyStrands was started up four years ago by Francisco Martin, a graduate student at Oregon State University, and two OSU professors, Thomas Diettrich and Jon Herlocker.

An OSUsed Store is set for noon to 3 p.m. at the property management facility, 644 S.W. 13th St. The sale is open to the public.

As part of the campus diversity action plan, the Office of Community and Diversity will be collaborating with different units and organizations to address and improve the overall campus climate. Upcoming Events


SEIU Local 083 at OSU will continue its fourth annual Charitable Donations Drive this week. New (or gently-used) items needed include clothing, personal items: sample sizes (and travel pouches/ditty bags for packaging samples), toys, small household items, cash, baby items, motel vouchers, gas vouchers, food (non-perishable items) and commitments of volunteer time. Donations will be collected near the MU Bites convenience store from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6, 11 and 13. Donations can also be picked up at an office or worksite. The Association of Office Professionals fall conference, “Career Management and Resume Writing,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the Memorial Union. Construction/traffic/maintenance


Due to inspection and repairs on the main building domestic water supply line, all domestic water services (hot and cold) in Education Hall will be shut down from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
