Puberty, pressure lead to less exercise for teen girls (We News)

A 2011 review by Oregon State University researchers evaluated 103 studies that looked at the influence of parents on the physical activity of their children and found that parental support had a positive effect on physical activity. Although there was no substantial evidence supporting whether parenting style, family cohesion or parental physical activity influenced child physical activity, parental support is integral to children being active.

Trade, climate helping insects eat through nation’s forests (Mohave Valley Daily News)

An alternative strategy, also a slow one, is to plant trees 50 or 100 miles away from their normal range so they can escape pests, or adapt to a more favorable climate, said Steven Strauss, a professor of forest biotechnology at Oregon State University.

OSU student art exhibit: The Fairbanks Gallery at Oregon State University will host “Montage,” an exhibition of art and poetry by OSU students, Dec. 9 through Jan. 23. An artist’s talk and public reception will take place in the gallery at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19. The event is free and open to the public. The Fairbanks Gallery is located on the first floor of Fairbanks Hall, 220 S.W. 26th St., on OSU’s Corvallis campus. OSU hazelnut study (Corvallis): Volunteers needed! Role of Hazelnut Consumption in Improving Micronutrient Status in Older Adults.
