Tours of Archaeological Site Offered at Champoeg (Salem News)
The Champoeg State Heritage Area will offer special ‘Oregon 150′ archaeological tours during July beginning July 10. Mike Niss with the Champoeg State Heritage Site, says the tours will allow visitors to observe an archaeological dig by Oregon State University summer field school students under the direction of David Brauner, an anthropology professor at OSU.
Studies Foresee Dilemma Over Forest Carbon Storage (US News & World Report)
Two studies from the Oregon State University Department of Forest Science appear in the journal Ecological Applications. One of the studies, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy for the U.S. Carbon Cycle Program, examined the amount of biomass — living and dead trees and brush — on 9,000 test plots in Oregon and Northern California from a Forest Service inventory, plus 200 plots monitored by OSU.

Forest fire prevention efforts will lessen carbon sequestration, add to greenhouse warming (Science Centric)
Widely sought efforts to reduce fuels that increase catastrophic fire in Pacific Northwest forests will be counterproductive to another important societal goal of sequestering carbon to help offset global warming, forestry researchers at Oregon State University conclude in a new report.

The following roads and parking areas will be closed from 7 a.m. July 17 through 8 p.m. July 19: 11th St. between Monroe and Jefferson; Campus Way between 11th St. and 14th/15th streets; Madison between 11th and 7th streets; Jefferson and 15th St. parking lot (Visitor parking lot East of intersection); Jefferson and 11th St. parking lot (behind McNary Hall); Residential Hall lots adjacent to 11th St., which specifically includes Oxford House parking lot on July 18 from noon to 10 p.m.
July 17, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the Electrothon Race, the following parking lots will be closed: Northwest of Kerr Administration Building; South of Kerr Administration Building; Facilities Services Shops; Benton Place on-street parking, both sides between Washington and Jefferson; Waldo Place service vehicle parking between Jefferson and Campus Way; Campus Way service vehicle parking between Waldo and 14th; Pioneer Place and Benton Place at Campus Way, which includes all parking by Benton Hall, Women’s Center and Milne Computer Center
