Today in the News Media is a synopsis of some of the most prominent coverage of OSU people and programs. Inclusion of any item constitutes neither an endorsement nor a critique, but rather is intended only to make the OSU community aware of significant items in the media.

House passes field burn ban (Democrat-Herald)
Most field burning in the Willamette Valley will be banned starting next year, the legislature has decided. Rep. Andy Olson, R-Albany, opposed the bill on the floor. Olson distributed an analysis by Oregon State University showing that farmers may lose money on annual ryegrass if they are not allowed to burn at all.

Today

The OSU Alumni Association will host a retirement reception to honor Steve Smith from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center in the Giustina Living Room.  Smith is retiring as associate director for finance and alumni center operations with 16 years of service to OSU.   All are welcome to attend the reception and celebrate Steve’s retirement.  Please contact Kristin at kristin.brogdon@oregonstate.edu with any questions.

Upcoming Events

The Summer Institute on Research Methodology will be held July 7 to 10, hosted by the College of Health and Human Sciences. Introductory and advanced courses are offered by the Methodology Core over a period of four days. The 2009 introductory course provides instruction in the use of Mplus. Traffic and Maintenance

Benton Hall/Cordley Hall: Weather permitting, TAPS will be repainting several parking areas during the week of June 29. As a result, the following parking lots will be temporarily shut down: Pioneer South Lot, south and west of Benton Hall, and Cordley West Lot, west of Cordley Hall. Work will begin at 7 a.m. June 29 and should be done by 5 p.m. July 2.

Moreland Hall parking lot: Due to geo tech work, the Moreland parking lot will be temporarily shutdown. This is the parking lot on 26th Street, south of the Native American Longhouse and Moreland Hall. All parking spaces will be affected between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. July 6.

Weather

Sunny skies continue as the highs reach 80, with an overnight low of 49. Tomorrow highs should be 88, and may climb to 91 by Thursday.
