Oregon lawmakers get closer to shaping new pot industry (Sacramento Bee)

Oregon already had a thriving medical marijuana program. Based on surveys of growers, Oregon consumes 160,000 pounds of marijuana a year, with up to 80,000 pounds consumed by the state’s 70,000 medical marijuana patients, said Seth Crawford, who teaches a class in marijuana policy at Oregon State University.

Art Exhibit: On display in Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center, Every Day Taste of Plein Air. The art exhibit runs from June 2 through July 17 and features 17 regional plein air artists. A paint out with the artists will take place on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Corvallis waterfront at Northwest 1st Street and Monroe Avenue. Art enthusiasts are also encouraged to join the public art reception in Giustina Gallery on June 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Light hors d’oeuvres and cash wine bar will be available. Standard gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

College of Business golf celebration in honor of Ilene Kleinsorge: The College of Business Dean, Ilene Kleinsorge has recently announced her retirement. In her honor Trysting Tree Golf Course is hosting a golf tournament Thursday, June 11, noon. Reception at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to the Ilene Kleinsorge Endowment for Student Success. 18 holes of golf will be provided, with a short reception at the end. NEW! External Fees: Oregon State University will take written comments on its proposed updates to OSU Standard 576-010 University Fees through the end of business on Monday, June 29, 2015. The purpose of the comment period is to receive public feedback regarding updates to the external fees before they become effective on July 1, 2015.  The proposed fees can be reviewed at the Valley Library circulation desk.  Comments should be directed to Beth Giddens at beth.giddens@oregonstate.edu.

Coffee Talks survey: The Advisor Coffee Talks Committee uses the summer months as preparation for the upcoming year. The ACT committee is dedicated to representation from all schools, colleges and departments. Please take the survey and share it with other faculty and staff. Traffic and Maintenance

Sackett Place: As part of the sidewalk project on the west side of Austin Hall, Sackett Place will be closed at Jefferson Way (View Map) beginning on June 15, 7 a.m., and running through June 19, 4 p.m. During this closure, the existing sidewalk will be demoed and a new sidewalk will be installed .

Sackett Place: As part of the Campus Steam Repairs project, the intersection at Sackett Place at Intramural Lane Section will be closed June 15-19, between 7 a.m.-5 p.m. This shutdown and excavation will be hard fenced and only affect the east lane of Sackett Place at the Intramural Lane intersection. Traffic will only be allowed to pass on an emergency basis and as needed for deliveries.

ALS Loading Dock: As part of the LInC project, improvements are being made to the ALS Loading Dock. Concrete will be poured in front of the ALS Loading Dock Friday, June 12th. This will shut down access for ALS at the south entrance to fill nitrogen, receive deliveries, and have garbage service for Friday and over the weekend of the 13 and 14 while the concrete is curing. Normal service to the loading dock can resume on Monday, June 15.

Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building.  This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide.  In 2015 the shutdown, which will occur June 14-18,  will be extended an extra day to accommodate the replacement of a main turbine and three software upgrades.

26th Street: As part of the Moreland Hall project, there will be a partial street closure of the northbound lane at 26th Street and Jefferson Way on Tuesday, June 16, from 7-9 a.m. A crane will be in the street for the purpose of setting the hew air handler on the Moreland Hall roof. Flaggers and traffic control for this work will be provided at the location by the contractor.
