ORNHIC worked with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) to develop the Oregon Conservation Strategy, completed in September 2006. This work is part of a national effort coordinated by the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (IAFWA). Links to the national and state summary pages are included below.

  • The IAFWA web site summarizing the Wildlife Grants and the national effort.
  • ODFW's summary web page describing their project.

In Oregon, ODFW had ORNHIC and the Institute for Natural Resources provided key information used to develop this strategy. The initial tasks included the development of:

  • updated distributions of all native wildlife species in Oregon
  • an update to the ODFW Sensitive Species List
  • an update of lands currently designated to conserve fish, wildlife and habitats
  • updated existing and historic vegetation coverages to map wildlife habitats
  • new maps for on-line distribution showing the "potentially occupied habitat" of state and federally listed plants and animals

You can read the Conservation Strategy at ODFW's Conservation Strategy page.
