The OSU Policy Analysis Laboratory adheres to a set of core values, beliefs, and principles:
We produce high-quality research and information for policymakers at all levels from rural townships and urban neighborhoods to state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, or private sector organizations. We seek to recruit and retain top students from around the country and the world, and provide opportunities for them to collaborate and be mentored by our outstanding faculty.
Independence and Innovation
We insist on rigorous, nonpartisan, objective analysis, from both established faculty and new students. We report findings and recommendations based on unbiased empirical inquiry. At the same time, we challenge students and faculty to unearth and define novel solutions, seeking unanticipated vantage points and opportunities for change.
We develop knowledge in response to both immediate and long-term demands of policymaking at large and small scales. In any given project, we might engage with civic, business, labor, nonprofit, government, educational, and research groups in our quest for broad and creative viewpoints. Using the internationally established capacity of Oregon State University, we integrate current science findings and emerging tenets of sustainability to frame our analyses and address policy objectives.
We disclose our methods, resources, and processes and provide free access to our publications to all interested parties.
We provie a workplace that offers mutual respect, collegiality, collaboration, and inclusiveness at all levels. We support personal, family, and professional development. We integrate innovative and emerging precepts of sustainability - social, ecological, and economic - into all out projects and analyses. We appreciate the diversity of people and regions in Oregon and Pacific Northwest. We recognize the importance of public service.
