Affirmative Action and Advancement

About

Oregon State University's Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity was founded in 1971 to ensure that all university community members uphold federal and state civil rights laws and regulations, as well as university equal opportunity policies.  This work continues to be performed by the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Affirmative Action encourages equity in the workplace through planning and implementation of guidelines and practices designed to end exclusion of women, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans.  Each year, the Office of Equity and Inclusion prepares an Affirmative Action Plan to analyze the OSU workforce.

Equal Opportunity is the opportunity to gain entry to, participate in, and benefit from employment, services, programs, activities, and privileges of the institution regardless of race, national origin, sex, ability or other protected status?.  OSU's commitment also includes a moral obligation to address the needs of groups historically underrepresented in the institution and those that have faced barriers to equal opportunity, such as discrimination or discriminatory harassment on the basis of protected status.
