National Pesticide Medical Monitoring Program
Informational Resources
- Food Poisoning: Are Pesticides Invading Our Diet?
A presentation given by the NPMMP on March 17, 2007 at the American College of Medical Toxicology Spring Meeting, Miami, FL. This .pdf file provides information on pesticides and food poisoning.
- Biomarker of Organophosphate Exposure, Effect, and Genetic Susceptibility
A presentation given by the NPMMP on March 17, 2007 at the American College of Medical Toxicology Spring Meeting, Miami, FL. This .pdf file provides information on organophosphate epidemiology, chemistry, toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics, and biomarkers of exposure, effect and genetic susceptiblity.
- Pesticides Toxicology: Reliable Internet and Electronic Resources
A presentation given by the NPMMP at the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology, San Francisco, CA. This .pdf file includes web links to other electronic resources on pesticides and their toxicology.
- The National Pesticide Medical Monitoring Program: An Informational Resource in the Clinical Toxicology of Pesticides
A PowerPoint presentation given by the NPMMP at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), Partners in Public Health Conference, Atlanta, GA. This .pdf file provides further background about the NPMMP and recent program activities.
- Medical Case Profiles at the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) website.
These profiles are intended to educate health care providers about pesticide toxicology. Common as well as uncommon scenarios involving pesticide exposures are used as examples of challenges that a clinician might encounter in their practice. Recent medical case profiles include: - The EPA Recognition and Management of Pesticide Poisonings, Fifth Edition.
- National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health, Pesticide Illness and Injury Surveillance Webpage
- Third National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals
- Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Toxicological Profiles
A collection of comprehensive profiles on the toxicology of pesticides and other environmental chemicals.
- National Strategies for Health Care Providers: Pesticides Initiative
A project of the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation (NEETF), to incorporate environmental health information into the education and practice of health care providers, using pesticides as a model.
- Toxic Exposure Surveillance System Annual Reports
The Toxic Exposure Surveillance System (TESS) is the only comprehensive poisoning surveillance database in the United States. Developed in 1983, TESS contains detailed toxicological information on more than 24 million poison exposures reported to U.S. poison centers. That includes more than 2 million reports to poison centers for 2000 alone, an estimated 96% of all poison exposures reported to poison centers in the U.S.
- Fact Sheets for New Active Ingredients
This page contains fact sheets on new active ingredients registered by the Office of Pesticide Programs under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. The page contains fact sheets for new chemicals registered from Fiscal Year 1997 to the present.
- Pesticide-Related Illness and Injury Surveillance: A How-To Guide For State-Based Programs
This manual (NIOSH Publication No. 2006-102) provides information on how to develop and maintain surveillance programs for acute and subacute health effects from pesticide exposure. The primary target audience is State health departments with planned or established pesticide poisoning surveillance programs. Other target audiences include agencies (e.g. local agencies, other state and federal government agencies, and international agencies), and members of the public interested in pesticide poisoning.
An electronic version of this clinical resource in the toxicology of pesticides is available on the National Pesticide Information Center website.
A resource for information on the epidemiology and surveillance of occupational pesticide-related illness.
This report, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Environmental Health, provides data on biomarkers of human exposure to pesticides and other environmental chemicals.
Locating a Health Care Provider
- The Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC)
- The American College of Medical Toxicology
A professional association of physicians with expertise in medical toxicology. Medical toxicology focuses on the diagnosis, management and prevention of poisoning/toxicity and other adverse health effects due to medications, chemicals, occupational and environmental toxins, and biological hazards.
- Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN)
A network of clinicians who provide care to underserved populations and migrant farmworkers. The MCN is dedicated to addressing the unique health care needs and barriers faced by migrant families through leadership, innovation, collaboration and support to health care providers.
- ACOEM Physician Locator Service
The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is a medical association of physicians, dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the American workforce and their communities. Members must adhere to the ACOEM's Code of Ethical Conduct. The ACOEM Physician Locator Service provides basic professional information about each occupational medicine physician member who has elected to participate in this public listing service.
A network of clinics and individuals committed to improving the practice of occupational and environmental medicine through information sharing and collaborative research.
