Exchange Outages - 2004
Our maintenance window for planned Exchange outages is Sunday 7AM-Noon and Tuesday
6AM-8AM. Emergency outages may be performed at other times when there is serious system
instability, a current virus outbreak against which the servers are not yet patched, or other
dire problems that just can't wait until Sunday.
Planned outages will be announced via the outages list and
posted to the Network Engineering Home page. Unplanned outages
will also be posted to the outages list as soon as possible after the outage has
occurred.
You can check on the current status of Exchange by viewing the status page.
If you think that Exchange services are down, please contact your DCA. During non-business
hours, you can call 737-HELP (737-4357) to leave a message for the Network Engineering
on-call person (please do not abuse this service).
Network or Power outages (planned and unplanned) that affected Exchange
- 05/06/04 4:00pm-5:30pm Campus power outage. Milne UPS failed after 20 minutes and all services in Milne were down from about 4:25pm-6:00pm.
- 03/29/04 9:45am-11:14am core switch hardware failure caused intermittent connection problems
- 03/24/04 12:00am-4:00am scheduled network maintenance - core network outage
- 3/23/04 2:00pm-2:30pm temporary network problems in Milne caused by saturation of bandwidth (affected mtshasta, mthood and mtadams)
- 03/22/04 10:00-11:00am unplanned network outage caused by spanning tree loop problem
Mtadams - Unplanned outages
- 4/28/04 6:55pm-10:00pm Exchange services stopped unexpectedly. Currently investigating with Microsoft tech support

- 04/18/04 8:00am 4/18 to 9:30am 4/20 pop/imap outage
- 02/17/04 6:00pm-6:05pm brief emergency outage to fix problem with symantec antivirus
- 01/08/04 5:00pm-5:05pm restarted Exchange services to troubleshoot a problem
Mtshasta - Unplanned outages
- 05/10/04 11:15am-11:30am Exchange services became unvailable because of a network configuration error
- 05/06/04 5:30pm-3:00am The Milne UPS failed during the power outage; Mtshasta stores were damaged and had to be recovered from tape
- 04/18/04 8:00am 4/18 to 9:30am 4/20 pop/imap outage
- 04/01/04 5:00pm-5:05pm 5 minute emergency outage to correct database problem
- 04/01/04 1:20pm-1:40pm Exchange unresponsive due to database problem
- 03/31/04 5:00pm-6:00pm 1 hour emergency outage to correct database problem
Scheduled Downtime for Maintenance
- 04/18/04 5 min outage for all servers to apply critical updates during normal maintenance window
- 03/23/04 5 min outage for all servers to apply critical updates during network outage
- 02/11/04 5 min outage for all servers to apply critical updates during normal maintenance window
- 02/08/04 8:00am-12pm outage for hardware reconfiguration on Mtranier and Mtshasta during normal maintenance window
- 01/13/04 5 min outage for all servers to apply critical updates during normal maintenance window
