Situations where SSH would secure password and data

• I want to login to SHELL.ONID.OREGONSTATE.EDU and read my mail using 'pine'.
• I want to transfer data to/from SHELL.ONID.OREGONSTATE.EDU. In this case, use the file transfer method of your SSH client.
• I need telnet access to a host/device with restricted access and no SSH. Use SSH to connect to a host with access rights to the host/device.
• I have a proprietary protocol that works on a certain port. Use SSH's tunneling capability.
• I need to forward my X11 sessions through a tunnel.
