Checklist for new DCAs
If an existing DCA is still around, many of these steps can be performed
by that person. If the former DCA is not available, however, contact
Network Engineering for help.
- Subscribe to the DCA All and Outages lists.
These lists are used to help facilitate discussion between campus DCAs
and to disseminate important information.
- Add yourself to the DCA Listing.
This database is used by IS Computer Consulting and Network Engineering to
help us determine who to contact in your department.
- Set up an ONID account if you
haven't already. ONID authentication is required for many central
services.
- Get access to department zone files in Maintain. The former DCA can
grant this access by going to the "Add User to Current Zone" option
under "Modify Permissions".
- Obtain access to Active Directory and Exchange (if applicable). The
former DCA can grant the new DCA access by simply adding them to the right
group. If you're not sure what group that is, contact Network
Engineering.
- If your department's website is hosted by Central Web Services and
you need access to it, ask the current web site gatekeeper to grant you
access. For more information, see http://oregonstate.edu/cws/access/.
- You should review the NET General FAQ for any helpful information, most of it is situational so add it to your bookmarks. New DCAs (as well as existing DCAs) should review the Exchange FAQ section too.
