Institute Housing and Amenities

Halsell Hall

The Institute will be held on the main Oregon State University campus, which covers some 400 acres.  Institute activities will take place in the central part of campus. A block of rooms has been reserved for institute participants at Halsell Residence Hall, which is also within the central OSU campus.  Built in 2003, Haslsell Hall offers suite rooms, with four single or two double bedrooms sharing a common area with kitchenette and one-and-a-half bathrooms.  Rooms will be provided with linen, and laundry facilities will be available on each floor. Halsell is a wheel-chair accessible facility with elevators.  The residence hall does not have air-conditioning but summers in Corvallis tend to be warm and dry during the day and cool at night.  A full description of housing amenities can be found at http://oregonstate.edu/uhds/halls_coops/This link includes a floor plan for Halsell and a virtual tour.  Simply click on Haslsell hall to access the site.

At this writing, the daily rate for a single room at Halsell is $44.90 and for a double room $39.65.  This price includes full linen service and a card for laundry facilities (2 washer and dryer loads per week).  All rooms have high-speed internet connection and extended basic TV access.   There is no smoking in OSU housing.  Weekly parking permits are available for $48.00

Additional options for accommodations (hotels and bed and breakfasts) can also be found using the OSU/Corvallis link on this website. We will assist those who would rather live off campus.

Dining

A meal package will be available to institute participants should they wish to take their meals in the cafeteria of West International House, which is close to both Halsell and the institute meeting places.  The package, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, will cost approximately $20.00 per day and will be available to all institute participants regardless of whether they lodge on campus or elsewhere.

There are a good number of eateries on campus and on its perimeter.  Downtown Corvallis is about a fifteen-minute walk from central campus and offers a range of restaurants and shopping.

Other Questions

Participants will be granted an OSU Affiliate Faculty ID card, which will give them access to Valley Library and to free bus transportation in Corvallis.  They will also have access to recreational sports facilities for a fee.   These facilities can be viewed at the following site: http://recsports.org/orst/. There is typically a daily or monthly charge for access to the Dixon Natorium and to other sports facilities.  Participants will be able to use the Language Arts Media Center during open hours to work on projects and print documents.  Finally, the staff of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will be available, during the duration of the institute, to assist participants.
