OSU Media Manager FAQs - Guest Users

Q: What is OSU Media Manager?

A: OSU Media Manager facilitates the conversion of various media formats for easy embedding and distribution.

Q: Why won't this video play?

A: There may be several reasons why a video cannot play. These are just a few:

  • Slow Connection: A slow connection simply means that you'll get your media - it will only take longer to reach you.  Watch the media's progress bar to see how much of the media has been buffered.  A high quality video will take longer to buffer than its standard quality equivalent. Give it some time.  Larger media may  not play back smoothly until the entire segment has been buffered.
  • Incomplete Buffering: Sometimes the buffering of a piece of media is interrupted and you can't get the full clip to buffer properly because the interrupted clip has been been cached.  Clearing your browser's cache may solve this.
  • Adobe Flash Player: OSU Media Manager at http://oregonstate.edu/media uses Adobe Flash Player to play back its media content.  You need to have at least version 9.0.115 installed in order to view content at this address.  Visit http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to get the latest version.  If this does not work, you may also have to uninstall your current version of the Adobe Flash Player and re-install from scratch.

Q: What are Media Collections?

A: Media Collections are categories of related media. The relationship is defined by the person or group who builds the collection.

As an example, a professor might place all of his or her lecture videos for a particular class into a collection.  This way students could view all of the videos for the class in one location.

Q: What are the different regions on the Home page?
