Degree Sought:
Ph.D. in Oceanography
Research Adviser:
Dr. Harold Batchelder, Biological Oceanography
Research Topic:
Euphausia pacifica behavior, bioenergetics, and distribution in the Oregon upwelling region

As part of Dr. Hal Batchelder's lab, Brie Lindsey investigates the interplay between krill behavior, development, and bioenergetics and its environment and the role of these interactions in determining distributions across the shelf. Her focus is on Euphausia pacifica, the dominant krill species off Oregon, a region with strong seasonal circulation patterns such as coastal upwelling. Lindsey uses individual-based models of behavior, development, growth, and reproduction to examine the importance of immediate environment and life history at the individual level to overall population patterns and to determine how a changing environment might impact these patterns.
