Gender Inclusive Housing Options

Gender Inclusive Housing opportunities are available for students who choose to live on campus in Halsell Hall, apartment-style living within University Housing & Dining Services. While this option is reserved for upper-division and transfer students, priority placement will be given to those students who notify UHDS that they require accommodations based on their gender identity and/or gender expression.

 What is Gender Inclusive Housing?

Gender Inclusive Housing means that anyone can choose to live in a room or suite with anyone else. Students can choose to live with each other without restriction based on gender identification. This program allows friends of varying genders to be assigned to the same room or suite.

How will roommates be chosen?

If a student wishes to live in Gender Inclusive Housing, but does not request a particular roommate, UHDS will assign a roommate based on availability. All roommates in a unit must agree to Gender Inclusive Housing.

How do I request to live in Gender Inclusive Housing?

While Gender Inclusive Housing is reserved for upper-division and transfer students, priority placement will be given to those students who contact UHDS at uhds@oregonstate.edu stating they require accommodations based on their gender identity and/or gender expression.

What halls offer Gender Inclusive Housing?

Currently, Halsell Hall, is the only residence hall with Gender Inclusive Housing. Room and dining rates are available online.

Additional Information

If you wish to not disclose your gender identity, you have the option of “Gender Variant” when applying for admission to the University. Additionally, there is an open field text box in the Housing application to disclose any information you wish.

There are also single living rooms available in all halls. Priority placement will be given based on availability to those students who notify UHDS that they require accommodations based on their gender identity and/or gender expression.
