Partners in Portland

OSU is embedded in Portland — in Oregon’s 300-company athletic and outdoor industry (anchored by Nike, Columbia Sportswear and Adidas America) and one of the Portland Development Commission’s five “signature industries.” In the health-care industry, with pharmacy faculty and research labs located at OHSU on the South Waterfront. In the food industry, advancing technology and start-ups at the Food Innovation Center on Naito Parkway. More examples:
- Every person matters. Staffed largely by OSU pharmacy students, the Old Town Clinic on Burnside serves the needs of the homeless out of a storefront crammed with supplies to treat asthma, diabetes, infections and other health problems.
- Healthy pets. OSU veterinary students do check ups and spay strays during two-week rotations at the Oregon Humane Society.
- Local food. The OSU Extension Service links farmers with Portland retailers and restaurants to bring fresh local produce to farm markets and dining tables.
- Rewarding business. The OSU College of Business works with Portland business leaders to recognize the best and brightest who provide jobs and contribute to the state’s economic success.
