Central Oregon's University
OSU-Cascades represents the future of Central Oregon. Growing student enrollment and degree programs underscore the partnerships between communities, businesses and the campus.
OSU-Cascades enters its 10th year with strong momentum and increasing business and community support.
- Steady enrollment growth: OSU-Cascades opened in 2001 with 245 students and 118 dually enrolled in Central Oregon Community College (COCC). By 2010, seven consecutive terms of double-digit growth raised enrollment to nearly 700 students, plus almost 200 at COCC, achieving the highest percentage growth of any OUS campus.
- Academic programs launched in 2010: The Energy Engineering Management degree and Hospitality Management option in Business Administration support growing local and state businesses and attract students. A family trust operated by the owners of BendBroadband contributed $250,000 to establish the Tykeson Endowed Faculty Scholar in Energy Engineering Management.
- Community participation: In 2010, 1,000 community members attended Science Pub and It’s in the Bag lectures, and more than 7,500 people participated in community events that OSU-Cascades helped sponsor.
- Vision for higher education: Together with Central Oregon community and educational leaders, OSU-Cascades created a vision leading to a four-year university. Programs formerly run by the University of Oregon transitioned to OSU-Cascades in 2010.
