President's Report 2004

As Oregon’s land grant institution, Oregon State University has crafted a mission for the 21st century that puts the needs of Oregon and the nation first and foremost. We want to make a difference in people’s lives and help them enjoy economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability.

For the next few years, we will focus on continuing to build excellent academic programs, improving the quality of our student experience, and growing our resource base. On a long-term basis, OSU will focus on five interdisciplinary themes of excellence: the arts and sciences; the Earth and its resources; entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development; life sciences and healthy populations; and sustainable natural resources.

In this report, you will see some examples of how we are beginning down the path toward becoming a top land grant institution. You will read about ways in which our students constantly strive to broaden their experiences, how our faculty are working on solving local and global challenges--and providing invaluable opportunities for students--and how OSU continues to be a key element in driving the Oregon economy.
