The College of Liberal Arts provides students with the highest quality undergraduate education possible while making optimum use of resources and faculty expertise.
The college has the major responsibility in the university for providing students with a liberal education that will prepare them for their futures as informed citizens. More than 96 percent of the student credit hours generated in the college are in undergraduate education, and 96 percent of the students enrolled in the college are undergraduates.
The College of Liberal Arts has consistently accounted for 25 to 30 percent of the university's student credit hours. In addition, the college has major responsibility for teaching significant portions of the university's baccalaureate core and difference, power, and discrimination requirements. Of the more than 300 baccalaureate core courses, 70 percent are taught in CLA.
Nearly all of the lower-division courses in the college satisfy university, college, and/or professional school requirements.
