Dr. Dan Arp became Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences on April 17, 2012. He has been at Oregon State University since 1990. Dean Arp earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1980 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.S. in chemistry in 1976 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He carried out his postdoctoral research at the University of Erlangen in Germany.
Dean Arp is a Distinguished Professor of Botany and Plant Pathology. He chaired the Department from 2004-2008. He maintains an active research program dealing with microorganisms involved in global elemental cycles. His research has been supported by grants from several federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. Nineteen graduate students and 12 postdoctoral research associates have received training in his laboratory and their research results are published in over 150 manuscripts.

The College of Agricultural Sciences is Oregon's principal resource for knowledge about agriculture and food systems. It is also a major source of knowledge about environmental quality, natural resources, rural economies and communities, and life sciences.
Not only does the college offer numerous popular undergraduate and graduate degree programs on campus and through distance education, but it also is committed to public service. That public service includes an active Extension agriculture program in Oregon. If you're an Oregonian, chances are there's an Extension agriculture faculty member in an office not far from where you live.
