About Vistas and Vineyards
LaSells Stewart Center hosts a juried show of Vistas and Vineyard "plein air" artists during the month of October. These artists are exhibiting art in many two dimensional medium including oil, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, graphite, and colored pencil. Work was started on site and was completed within the last two painting sessions.
Vistas and Vineyards is a group of artists that meet weekly beginning mid-May through Mid-October to express themselves individually as artists, to enjoy painting "en plein air" at local sites, and to share their work with each other and the mid-valley community. This group has been painting together since 1989 and always welcomes new members. It is an opportunity for artists in numbers to safely explore and paint on private lands and in remote areas. Some 95 artists from around Corvallis and neighboring communities are members of the group.
The group meets at a different site each Wednesday morning and paints into the early afternoon. Each noon there is an informal gathering to share paintings in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. This year the group visited 22 different sites including covered bridges, gardens, and vineyards. They also visit Mallard Creek golf course and some downtown areas with old buildings and people. New this year has been monthly lessons by several of our artists to improve the skills and knowledge of all. A two-day seminar by Clint Brown, Professor Emeritus from Oregon State University was a highlight of the painting year.
Artists' Reception
An artists' reception will be held at LaSells Stewart Center on Tuesday, October 11, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The public is invited. The show will be open to the public from October 3 - 30.
Juror
The show, juried by Shannon Ray who has been the Sales Manager/Artist
Relations at Lawrence Gallery, Sheridan, for more than 15
years. The artist's long career in the world of communication
through the arts traces a path along the lines of artistic
vision. Large murals, tiny water-color vignettes, expansive
impressionistic oil landscapes, even lacquer airbrush illustrations
have a place in her portfolio. Shannon is also a veteran teacher,
finding the level that each individual is ready to explore
and really enjoying the "light turning on behind their
eyes." Along with her education in arts and extensive
teaching experience throughout Oregon, Shannon has had exhibitions
and juror appointments at the Art Harvest Tours, Yamhill Co;
Winter Watercolor Show Mid-Valley Arts; Salem; One Woman Show,
"Politically Speaking" Roseberg Arts Center; Lawrence
Gallery Holiday Showcase; Juror, Jenkins Estate Painter's
Showcase, Portland; and numerous community art exhibits.
