How do I make my media public for all to see?

Kaltura MediaSpace makes it possible for you to publish your content publicly for everyone to see without having to login. In this case, it's important to make your video as "discoverable" as possible. A proper title, description, and metatags will help in search results for external search engines as well as internal searches through Kaltura MediaSpace. Content that has been captioned will also have its transcription text searched when using the Kaltura MediaSpace search.

Why won't this media play?

Kaltura MediaSpace supports HTML5 video playback. That means that any modern browser should be able to support the media you are trying to play. This includes Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera on desktop platforms, as well as Google Chrome and Apple Safari on mobile platforms. No plugins are required to play content. But there remains a few reasons why a piece of media may not play. These are just a few:

Are there file size limitations in Kaltura MediaSpace?

Kaltura MediaSpace only allows for media of less than 2GB to be uploaded. Alternate methods of upload exist for files larger than 2GB. Please contact Media Services for details.

What file types does Kaltura MediaSpace support?

Kaltura MediaSpace can encode the following video file types:

  • flv
  • asf
  • qt
  • mov
  • mpg
  • mpeg
  • avi
  • wmv
  • mp4
  • m4v
  • f4v
  • 3gp

Kaltura MediaSpace can also encode the following audio file types:

  • flv
  • asf
  • wmv
  • qt
  • mov
  • mpg
  • avi
  • mp3
  • wav

What limitations are there to using Kaltura MediaSpace on a mobile device?

Functionality on mobile devices is similar to that on desktops. You can playback media files as well as upload previously recorded content or record directly from your device's camera to Kaltura MediaSpace.

Can videos in Kaltura MediaSpace be captioned?

Kaltura MediaSpace allows for the captioning of media and is compatible with SRT files. You may upload your own captions file if you are familiar with the SRT format. Otherwise, Disability Access Services can assist you in generating and adding captions to your media. You can contact DAS at 541-737-4098.

Does Kaltura MediaSpace allow me to stream live events?

Media Services can assist with the streaming of your live events. These events can be webcast at OSU Live. If you would like more information on streaming a live event, please contact Media Services at 541-737-2121.

What should I do if I have found offensive content in MediaSpace?

If you have found material on Kaltura MediaSpace which you find offensive, please report it to Media Services immediately.
