CN Lite

Service Details

One of the services that the Community Network offers is a total computing solution including hardware and software. Using Microsoft's Terminal Services, Microsoft Office 2007 applications and Windows based terminals, this service is an easy way to upgrade your desktop performance without breaking your budget.

The CN-Lite Service is designed for customers who only require a limited desktop platform and application suite. The CN-Lite Service requires specialized hardware that is provided by the Community Network and is included in the monthly fee. There is no need to buy hardware.

The CN-Lite Package

Each customer receives the following items :

  • Hardware :
    • Microsoft Windows Terminal and a Dell 19" Flat Panel Monitor
    • Keyboard & Mouse
  • Software :
    • Microsoft Office 2007 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher)
    • Banner, DataWarehouse, and Advance
    • Current Antivirus Client
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
    • PDF Creator
    • PureEdge viewer
    • SSH Secure Shell & WinSCP
    • Internet Explorer (Plugins include: OmniForm, Adobe Shockwave, Adobe Flash, RealPlayer, and Quicktime)
  • Computer Support :
    • Full desktop support through the Community Network

Pricing and Ordering Instructions

You can order CN Lite by contacting your support team. They will be able to answer any questions that you may have regarding the CN-Lite service and its capabilities. Pricing for the CN-Lite service is located on the Community Network policy page. Feel free to discuss the option of receiving a demonstration unit for testing as needed.

Additional Information

User Data Storage

The thin client device does not have any local storage, however some Universal Serial Bus (USB) storage devices such as Key Chain Drives, USB Floppy, USB Zip and USB hard drives can be attached for local storage. Other USB devices such as CD-ROM drives and printers may also be attached. Check with your support team before you purchase the device to be sure it will work with the thin client. These types of devices will have to be purchased by the department or customer seperately. If you have questions regarding the compatability of an device, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Device Security

The thin clients and monitors use industry standard Kennsington-style locking mechanisms. If your installation will be in a public location the Community Network will provide a security cable for both the monitor and terminal. Please inform us of your security cable needs when you discuss your options with us.

Limitations of Service

  • In the terminal services environment users are not allowed to download and install additional software.
  • Local printing is possible if your printer is USB and drivers are available. Please contact the Community Network to verify they will work before your purchase.
  • Audio and video are supported from media on USB keys, Network Drives, or the Internet. External speakers and audio CD playback are not available.
