ONID System Changes, Fall 2012

The ONID system has been updated to simplify how you manage your ONID password.  We ask that you take action as described below to improve your password management experience.

Password Reset Improvement - Effective 8/23

First, we have made a Password Reset improvement that is effective immediately.  If you forget your ONID password, you can have the system send you an authentication code to either your cell phone number (as an SMS text message) or to a non-ONID email address.  This is similar to how banks and webmail providers help you reset a forgotten password, and this change makes your password more secure.

Please login to ONID right now at onid.oregonstate.edu and provide your alternate contact information.  Doing this before the start of the Fall term will ensure that you can always reset your ONID password, even if you've forgotten it in the middle of the night.

ONID Password & GAP Synchronization - Effective 9/12

Then, as of September 12th, you will be able to use one single password for both ONID and GAP.  After September 12th, when you change your ONID password, your GAP will automatically be changed to match your ONID password.

Your passwords will not be synchronized until you change your ONID password and you will not have to update your ONID password immediately.  For example, if you are not due to change your ONID password until January 1st, you will not need to take action before that date and you can keep using your current ONID password in the meantime.  However, we encourage people to update your ONID password sooner rather than later, so that you only have to remember one password for your ONID and your GAP.  (We will send a reminder email to all ONID accounts after the 12th about this change.)

The Helpdocs website (oregonstate.edu/helpdocs) will be updated after September 12th with new instructions for managing your ONID account.  For example, if you forget your ONID password and can't remember how to reset your ONID password, you will be able to go to the Helpdocs website for instructions. Please consider bookmarking this website for future reference.
