Job Opportunities at the Student Computing Facilities

The Student Computing Facilities (SCF) serve the computing needs of OSU students, staff, and faculty. We maintain over 250 computers located in one general use facilities (Milne) and six computer classrooms (Education, LAMC, Multimedia Facility, Milne 201, Milne 130, AIHM). The majority of our computers are Windows XP workstations, but we do have about 70 Macintoshes running OS X 10.4

Our student workers are responsible for staffing most of our computer facilities and assist customers with questions concerning the hardware and software installed there. Questions can range from assisting our customers with setting up their account to helping find a needed feature in a computer program. They also perform basic maintenance to the equipment, perform cleaning duties such as wiping workstations and dusting, and keep a welcoming academic environment for our customers.

We expect our staff to have good customer service skills, basic knowledge of Windows XP and/or Macintosh OS X, knowledge of our popular software packages (MS Office, Web Browsers, Email etc) and knowledge of our equipment (printers and scanners). Knowledge of software used in our classrooms is a plus. Our staff comes from various academic backgrounds including Liberal Arts, Engineering, Business, and Health and Human Performance. This position does not require any programming or system administration skills. Starting Pay Rate is 7.58 per hour (Graveyard shifts are paid 50 cents extra per hour), and we ask that everyone work at least 8 hours a week.

Interview:

Our interviews are informal where we get to know you and find out what you would do in some situations that you may come across while working in our computer facilities. You will also be able to ask us any questions you may have about the position. You welcome to bring a resume, but its not required.

Employment Test:

The test is a 50 question long that asks questions about computer hardware, software and peripherals (scanners, printers, etc). You will be also asked a few questions about SCF and OSU's computer polices, and about the accounts a student may use while at our computer lab. *hint* You can take the test before or after your interview time. You don't need to bring anything to the test, and food and drink are not allowed in the testing area.
