Conferencing Service For Public Agencies Receives National Recognition

November 12, 2012

The OSU Managed Communications Services (MCS) unit of Information Services received two honorable mention awards this October in recognition for their work on OSUMEETME.VC, a cloud-based collaborative conferencing service that offers low cost audio, video, and web conferencing services to public agencies.

Nominees for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) awards were evaluated on their project’s support of public policy goals, innovative use of technology, and assistance in accomplishing tasks more efficiently at a low cost.

Following the service's acknowledgement at the national level, OSUMEETME.VC was automatically entered into the Oregon State Chief Information Officers (CIO) awards, where they were given an honorable mention for their innovative approach to audio and video conferencing and for the cost savings benefit to the state that arose from the project.

OSU took over running the conferencing service from the Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) in January 2011 after the Oregon State Legislature mandated that DAS look into alternative providers for the service. Since then, OSU built new infrastructure that provides greater capacity and higher quality conferencing. This, in turn, led to new collaborations, including a partnership with Oregon Health Network that made telehealth services a reality in Oregon, furthering OSU’s goal of improving human health and wellness.

OSUMEETME.VC continues to grow its customer base among members of the Northwest Regional Telehealth Resource Center, which encompasses seven Northwest states. Government agencies are also using OSUMEETME.VC to streamline processes including judicial hearings and depositions, distance education, and interagency meetings.
