Students must also make satisfactory academic progress throughout the application process and during their study abroad program, and otherwise comply with policies and procedures of the host university, the OUS Office of International Programs, and their home university International Programs Office.
The Oregon University System program at the University of Limerick in Ireland facilitates undergraduate student exchange between University of Limerick students and students from the seven public universities in Oregon. The program allows students to enroll in undergraduate and graduate courses in many fields, and is suitable for students from most majors. The University of Limerick operates on a semester system, and students may enroll for either one semester or a full year of study.
The UL campus is a short distance outside the city, and its green expanse bridges the River Shannon; it is composed of modern, purpose-built buildings, and has easy access to the city center. Student life is active and friendly, and sports are a large part of the student scene. UL has a full range of student support services, and regularly plans outings and events for international students. A comprehensive orientation to the university and the community begin any student’s stay at UL.
Highlights
UL offers 72 undergraduate and 103 graduate programs in four different areas (faculties): Arts, Humanities and Social Science; Education and Health Sciences; the Kemmy Business School; Sciences and Engineering.
Key research areas at UL include: Information and Communication Technologies, Bioengineering and Biosciences and Energy and Sustainable Environment.
For students in the humanities and social sciences, UL also excels in new media and journalism, music and dance, European studies and international relations.
There are close to 40 sports clubs on campus, and students can try their hand at rowing, or rugby, for a truly Irish experience!
Selection for the program is based on a review of the student's online application (application form, essays, transcripts, and recommendations) as well as the results of the student’s campus interview.
Participants must meet the eligibility requirements for their chosen program, and be prepared linguistically, academically, and socially to succeed abroad. Overseas study participants must satisfactorily complete the following:
- Well-written program application
- Personal interview and language evaluation
- Timely submission of all required paperwork
- Attendance at pre-departure orientation sessions
- Payment of program fees
Program participants must also demonstrate the ability to be successful overseas through evidence of maturity, motivation, and flexibility. Participation in any program is subject to the approval of the OUS International Programs Office, and its partner institutions, which may grant or withhold such approval in their sole discretion.
