With a population of 65,000, Siena sits atop three converging hills, only forty miles southwest of Florence. Siena's Duomo (Cathedral) is a spectacular example of Gothic Italian architecture, and the accompanying museum houses magnificent works by Italian masters such as Duccio and Giotto. Its soaring skyline is its pride, dominated by the blazing black and white banner of the Duomo and the taut needle of the Torre del Mangia. Students in the program have the luxury of living in a city of the Middle Ages while enjoying convenient access to modern cultural centers such as Florence, Pisa, Rome, Venice, and Milan.

Program Details:
The AHA Siena program is designed for students wishing to combine the study of Italian language ( for absolute beginners to advanced) with courses in Anthropology, Art History, Communications, Economics, Food and Culture, History, and Political Science. Students can elect to enroll in intensive Italian language for 100 contact hours at the beginning or advanced levels, or in semi-intensive courses at all levels for 50 hours. Students enroll in the Intercultural Communications course and, combined with a community placement, can elect to earn Service Learning credit. Students opting to enroll in Service Learning can select from a variety of opportunities, including placements at a pottery arts program for the disabled, in a day care center, an elementary school or with a retirement center. In addition to Italian Language and the ICC course, students enroll in one to three additional courses offered on site to round out their Italian cultural experience. In addition to the AHA courses offered on site, students can also opt to enroll in an extra-curricular Italian Cooking Course (for an additional fee).
