Country:
Ireland
Host Institution:

Burren College of Art

Location:

Ballyvaughan is a small but lively village with a very traditional feel. You'll find quaint shops, pubs, and excellent traditional Irish music. Set near the water on the exposed side of Galway Bay, Ballyvaughan is buffeted by strong winds and constantly changing weather. Rainbows are common all along the coastline.

Ballyvaughan is known as the "gateway to the Burren," an eerie coastline of incredible exposed limestone. Relatively quiet during the winter, the Burren attracts archaeologists, artists, botanists, cavers, geologists, hill walkers, historians, and tourists throughout the summer. With its unearthly landscape and historic ruins dating from prehistory to the Middle Ages, the Burren is well worth exploring.
