IE3 Application Process and Timeline

- If you are interested in an IE3 internship, attend a First Steps Meeting.

-Discuss with your academic advisor and/or internship advisor how an IE3 internship will fit in your curriculum at OSU to determine the best term for you to go abroad.

- Visit the IE3 website, learn about the program, use the search engine to find internship positions of your interest, compare various options and narrow down your choices. You may also want to search for any scholarships that you are eligible for.

- Call International Programs front desk (541-737-3006) to make an appointment with one of the OSU IE3 Campus Coordinators. They will advise you on your next steps, and have you be in touch with an appropriate Regional Director to discuss further details of the internship(s) you are interested.

- Give yourself plenty of time to work on your application materials, as well as any scholarship applications. You are expected to complete online applications (EXCEPT the interview) before the deadline. The Writing Center and Cereer Center can provide you help with editing of your resume, cover letter, and personal essay. What you submit will be reviewed by your potential internship supervisor, and everything should be as complete and professional as possible. (To make an appointment with the Writing Center, click here.)

- Complete both the OSU online application (*Your OSU student account will be charged $50 non-refundable fee upon completing the OSU online application) and the IE3 online application (click here for the video tutorial on how to create an IE3 student account) by the IE3 application deadline. Once everything is marked as "received" in your IE3 application account, schedule an interview with your IE3 Campus Coordinator within 1-2 weeks AFTER the deadline (541-737-3006). Your interview report will then be forwarded to the Regional Director, who will then review the report to make a formal recommendation to the internship site. Prior to this step, you must sign the Learning Agreement Form, which shows your full commitment to the IE3 internship program.

- It may take 4-6 weeks before you hear back from the Regional Director regarding your acceptance. In the meantime, complete the OSU Credit Agreement Form and discuss what assignments/projects you need to do with your supervising professor.

- Attend the mandatory IE3 orientation (you will have opportunities to meet past interns at this time).

- While you are abroad, stay in touch with your Regional Director and Campus Coordinator, as well as the supervising professor who will be working with you on your internship credits.

- Upon returning to OSU, turn in your final report, self-evaluation and employer evaluation to receive INTL 410 credits. If you arranged to earn departmental credits, it is your responsibility to complete and turn in all assignments to your professor in order to receive those credits. You will receive an "I" grade for all internship credits until you turn in everything. The reporting guideline is listed on the IE3 website.
