Favorite activities: Hanging out with other international students and cooking together; playing extreme Frisbee.
Favorite class: a manufacturing class that taught us a lot about costing techniques and the different philosophies that can drive manufacturing.
Favorite place on campus: the Memorial Union building for students...it offers quietness and relaxation, food, as well as noise and activities.
Favorite campus wide event: The International Students of OSU (ISOSU) Spring Festival.
Five things you love about OSU: Opportunities to gain experience, sometimes voluntary, sometimes paid; the natural beauty of the campus; friendly people that are more concerned about what you can do rather than how you dress; lots of recreational opportunities but also places to spend time alone where it's peaceful and relaxing; the technology that is available to students such as laptops that one can check out from the library.
Best Tip for Living in the U.S.: Don't be overly concerned about good grades, but rather find ways to differentiate yourself from others through work experiences and unusual classes.
Advice to future students: Be prepared to multitask and juggle a variety of activities.
What are the faculty and staff like at your school?
I like to describe it as a "salad". Some are great and take you under their wing, and others are sometimes more concerned with their research.
How has studying in the U.S. changed you?
I've become a workaholic.
Why you are here at Oregon State University?
I was first an exchange student here in Corvallis and eventually applied to pursue my bachelor's degree at OSU.
How do you feel that your experience in the U.S. will help you in later life?
I know myself better, I'm self-sufficient, and my views about gender (roles), religion, politics and about being caring have all changed.
What was your biggest challenge to coming to the U.S.?
Cultural adjustment...figuring out the rules of what is polite and what is rude.
