How did you decide to go to OSU?
I had a professor at a previous university who mentioned that OSU is a very good school. I then talked to my advisor in Education who was very supportive and warm. She was very helpful. The coordinator of the program was also very supportive not just toward my education but also my personal well-being here.
What do you especially like about OSU and/or what have been your favorite experiences at OSU so far?
I have been heavily involved in the Center for Teaching and Learning as a web-designer/Technical assistant. I helped launch the website for the Center. I’m now training to be an assistant manager of the academy. This experience has given me the opportunity to talk to teachers and instructors and has moved me to a professional level in all areas that impact education. The director of the CTL is going to establish an International Academy in China and South Africa and this has helped me participate in international collaboration. In the future we plan to invite faculty from other countries. People are very friendly here – my doctoral cohorts are my friends and helpers. We are living, studying together every year having the same experiences – and the program is both flexible and wonderful.
How has studying in the US and at OSU changed you?
When I was undergraduate in home economics, I specialized in structural technological education. I was interested in integrating technology into the learning experience. I learned the technical skills that can help teaching and I taught family and consumer science to graduate students as part of an internship. – I learned how to use software conduct surveys with students to find out what they know about technology. I learned how to think critically and how to use technology (the right way) to teach effectively. I have learned how to be open-minded, and how not to let my biases influence my decision, how to question myself, and self reflect. My learning experiences have been challenging and have made my enjoy my field further.
How do you believe studying at OSU will help you in the future and impact your career plans?
I’m currently working at CTL where I am training how to be assistant manager and professional use of technology in education. I plan on going back to Jeddah and teach after learning more about Computer Science and its role in teaching. Being here has given me the professional, leadership and communication skills I need to succeed.
What advice do you have for future students?
Be open-minded, flexible and don’t give up. Keep moving, accept the challenge and don’t isolate yourself from others.
