The purpose of this paper is to give a brief chronology and analysis about the history of Hungary as background for my project, “Images of Hungary”—artistic black and white photographs of Hungary inspired by an appreciation of its beauty and gained from spending a year living in the culture and speaking the language. More background about my experiences in Hungary in the context of recent changes are available in the journal I kept while there, also submitted as a supplement and background to the photo project.
