These reforms dealt with spending cuts and other cuts of the welfare and social benefits. The purpose of this study was to present the number of strikes and feelings of the protesters, to analyze the actions of Jacques Chirac and Alain Juppe, and also to reveal the different political and economic effects these protests had on France. Figures taken from national polls, charts showing the economic growth, and photographs of the protests, all create a mental picture of what the atmosphere was like during this time period.

Also discussed is the background of state-intervention and nationalism in France, and the continuing practices of such notions demonstrated by the strikes. A historical perspective is given of these concepts and how they originated and soon began to dominate politics, government, and public opinion.

All of the data presented supports the fact that the protests of 1995 had direct political and economic effects on French society.
