Sheila Mullooly

As an ELI instructor, Sheila teaches college preparatory ESL to international students at all levels. In addition to facilitating active language acquisition and familiarization with academic expectations within the U.S. context of higher education, she promotes cross-cultural communicative competence and respect for diverse worldviews.
As Manager of the ELI Learning Center, Sheila ensures the smooth operation of the ELI multimedia center, which provides writing and pronunciation assistance, and a wide range of educational materials and equipment for independent language learning, as well as space for self-study and classes.
Sheila Mullooly has been teaching ESL/EFL since 1995. She earned a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge in 1998 and an M.A. in TESOL Studies from the University of Queensland in 2005. Her M.A. research concerned issues of framing in intercultural communication. She is a certified examiner for the International English Language Testing System (ILETS). Sheila also holds bachelor's degrees in Biology (Grinnell College 1994) and Fine Art (Lucerne School of Art and Design 2002).
Sheila has recently returned from 10 years abroad where she taught extensively at trade school, community college, and university levels in Switzerland and Australia.
