English language proficiency as demonstrated by achieving a score of 520 on the written Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 190 on the Computer TOEFL.  Eastern Oregon University currently does not have a conditional admit program.

Oregon Institute of Technology

OIT requires that international students score at least 520 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language. This is equivalent to a 68 on the new Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or 190 on the computer-based TOEFL.

If you successfully complete a Level 112 course at an ELS Language Center (www.els.com), we can waive the TOEFL requirement for you.  ELS has a school located on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland (http://www.els.edu/Centers/Ashland/default.els?ISO=en).

Oregon State University

International students must meet the University's requirements for proficiency in English: for undergraduates, a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL or 213 on the computer-based test.  If your TOEFL score is between 500-550, you may be offered conditional admission where you can take intensive English language classes part-time and regular OSU classes part-time.

Please note for graduate students: individual academic departments may require a higher TOEFL score than 550.  Contact your specific department to find out what is their minimum TOEFL requirement.

The valid proofs for proficiency in English are:

  • Minimum required official score on the International TOEFL or PSU's Institutional TOEFL, or

  • Successful completion of the ESL program at PSU and release by the ESL coordinator, or

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree at a college/university where English is the only language of instruction.

Undergraduate students must meet the requirements for proficiency in English: a minimum of 525 on the  TOEFL (paper-based test) or a score of 197 on the computer-based test. The same requirement applies for Post Baccalaureate students.

Graduate students must have a minimum of 550 on the TOEFL (paper-based test) and 213 on the computer-based test.

Note: some graduate programs require a higher TOEFL-score. Please consult the graduate coordinator in your academic department to verify the minimum score requirement.

Southern Oregon University

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for students coming directly to Southern Oregon University from a non-English speaking country.  A score of 520 (190 computer-based) is required of undergraduate applicants; a score of 540 (207 computer-based) is required of graduate applicants whose native language is not English.

  • For all students, undergraduates and graduates, if your score is less than  575 on the paper-based test or 233 on the computer-based test, you will need to take an English language test once you arrive at the University of Oregon.  This test is given on campus during International Student Orientation.

Based on the results of these tests, students may need to take additional language-support courses through the UO's Academic English for International Students courses during their first year on campus.
