A requirement for admission to an OUS institution is a certificate of proficiency in English. The minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) varies depending on the OUS institution you will attend.

Eastern Oregon University
TOEFL score of at least 520 (PBT), 190 (CBT), 70 (iBT) overall (minimum of 14 in each section),6.0 (IELTS) or completion of level 112 from an English Language School.
Official TOEFL and IELTS score reports should be sent directly to EOU from the Testing Center or English Language School.


Oregon Institute of Technology
TOEFL score of at least 520 (PBT), 190 (CBT) or an equivalent on the new Internet-based TOEFL.


Oregon State University
Undergraduate:TOEFL score of at least 527 (PBT), 197 (CBT), 71 (iBT) overall (minimum score of 15 on each section), or 6.0 (IELTS).
Graduate: TOEFL score of at least 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT), 80 (iBT) overall (minimum score of 18 on each section), or 6.5 (IELTS).

Undergraduate: TOEFL score of at least 197(CBT) or 71 (iBT) overall (minimum per section: 16 reading; 16 listening; 14 speaking ; 14 writing).
Graduate: TOEFL score of at least 213 (CBT) or a 79 (iBT) overall (minimum per section: 18 reading; 18 listening; 16 speaking; 16 writing).
The TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - Program requires a score of 600; Theatre and Education require a 580.


Southern Oregon University
Undergraduate: TOEFL score of at least 520 (PBT), 190 (CBT), 68 (iBT), or 6.0 (IELTS).
Graduate: TOEFL score of at least 540 (PBT), 207 (CBT), 76 (iBT), or 6.5 (IELTS).


University of Oregon
If your native language is not English, you must submit results of a standardized test to show English language proficiency.
Undergraduates: TOEFL score of at least 500 (PBT), 173 (CBT), and 61 (iBT), or 6.0 (IELTS)
Graduates: TOEFL score of at least 575 (PBT), 233 (CBT), and 88 (iBT), or 7.0 (IELTS)
Departmental English Language Proficiency Requirement: The minimum TOEFL score required by a department may be higher than the UO minimum. .


Western Oregon University
Undergraduates: TOEFL score of at least 173 (CBT) or 61 (iBT)
Graduates: TOEFL score of at least 213 (CBT), or 79 (iBT)
Conditional admission with limited ESL requirements is available for TOEFL scores between 150 and 173.
