Six students from Oregon State University have received 2008-09 U.S. Student Fulbright awards, a record number for OSU.
Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” The U.S. Student Fulbright Program offers merit-based fellowships to recent bachelor’s graduates, current master’s and doctoral students, young professionals and artists for study and research abroad, according to Marit Legler, the OSU Fulbright Program Advisor. Approximately 1,200 students—chosen for their leadership potential—are selected each year nationwide.
