OSU Students Receive $26,000 in Scholarships for International Degree and Education Abroad

Ten undergraduates at Oregon State University have been selected to receive scholarships totaling $26,000 for international research and education abroad in 2008-09. The scholarship program includes six awards administered by the International Degree and Education Abroad (IDEA) office. A committee of OSU faculty and staff members selects students for the scholarships each year.
There are numerous scholarships available for OSU students, including awards for persons seeking the International Degree and for those participating in study abroad and exchange programs, or pursuing international internships.

Students receiving scholarships include:
Albany, Ore.
- Avelino Solomon, a business administration and education double degree major, received a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship in support of fall 2008 study abroad in Thailand.
Beaverton, Ore.
- Whetherly Cundiff, an International Degree student and biology major with minors in chemistry and Japanese, received a $2,000 International Degree Research Award in support of a summer 2008 internship and research in Japan.
Corvallis, Ore.
- Seth Sherry, a crop and soil science major, received a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship in support of fall 2008 study abroad in Ghana.
Eugene, Ore.
- Monee Madrigale, a business administration major, received a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship in support of fall 2008 study abroad in Norway.
Grants Pass, Ore.
- Brent Erickson, a biology major, received $500 from the Jack Van de Water Scholarship fund and $1,000 from the International Science Student Travel Fund in support of his summer 2008 internship in South Africa.
Hermiston, Ore.
- Melissa Lopez, a human development and family sciences major, received a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship and $500 from the Dianne Walta Hart Scholarship fund in support of fall 2008 study abroad in Taiwan.
Junction City, Ore.
- Emily Dray, an International Degree student, anthropology major and French minor, received a $2,000 International Degree Research Award and a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship in support of fall 2008 study abroad and research in Tunisia.
Philomath, Ore.
- Karl Fairchild, an International Degree and University Honors College student, fisheries and wildlife major and Spanish minor, received a $2,000 International Degree Research Award in support of fall 2008 study abroad and research in Costa Rica.
Portland, Ore.
- Jeffery Ma, an accounting major and history minor, received a $2,500 Nicodemus Study Abroad Scholarship in support of fall 2008 study abroad in Hong Kong.
Roseburg, Ore.
- Cayla Lopez, an International Degree student, political science major and Spanish and business minor, received $500 from the Mary Alice Wartman Memorial Scholarship fund and $500 from the Ray A. Verzasconi Scholarship fund in support of winter and spring 2009 study abroad and research in Ecuador.
Salem, Ore.
- Anne Southworth, an International Degree and University Honors College student, nutrition and food management major and Spanish minor, received a $2,000 International Degree Research Award in support of a summer 2008 internship and research in Mexico.
