Orientation Description

Prior to the beginning of each term, International Student Advising and Services (ISAS) holds a mandatory orientation program for new international students (including students who are transferring from another school inside the U.S. or changing from a language program to a degree program at OSU).

This orientation program is designed to provide you with valuable information and facilitate your transition to OSU. By participating in the International Student Orientation, you will gain essential information about:

• immigration rules and regulations that affect your visa status
• student health services and health insurance requirements at OSU
• academic life at OSU and how to register for classes
• campus and community resources
• opportunities to meet other new international and domestic students at OSU

All newly admitted international students are required to attend orientation and the immigration document check-in. If you do not attend both, International Student Advising and Services will place a hold on your registration. If you are unable to attend one or both of these sessions, please contact International Student Advising and Services at 541-737-6310 or email isas.advisor@oregonstate.edu. To cover the cost of orientation, all students will be charged an orientation fee of $35 (winter and spring terms) or $50 (fall term). This fee will be automatically charged to your OSU student account.

Immigration Document Check-in (IDC) Schedule

In addition to the orientation, international students are also required to come to the Immigration Document Check-In and bring the documents or copies listed on Documents to Bring for IDC.

Immigration Document Check-In (IDC)

Immigration document check-in is required for all incoming international and exchange students in all OSU and INTO OSU programs. This includes students who are transferring to OSU from another school in the U.S.

International students will need to bring original immigration documents for themselves and their dependents to the Immigration Document Check-In.

Please have the originals arranged in the following order:

• Your OSU I-20 or DS-2019, with a Port of Entry stamp
• Previous I-20 or DS-2019 from your previous school, if you are transferring to OSU
• Passport identification page showing name and expiration date, and extension page (if you have renewed your passport)
• Your U.S. Visa (stamped in your passport) – Canadian citizens are exempt from this requirement only.
• Front and back of your I-94 Arrival/Departure Card (received at the Port of Entry)

In addition, you will be asked to complete a Biographical Information form and a Maintaining Status form during your Visa session at Orientation.  Please bring the completed forms to Immigration Document Check-In. If you cannot find your forms, they are also available under the 'forms and documents' section for your convenience. Please bring the telephone number of an emergency contact, local address and your telephone number if available.
